Massage Modalities
The most common modality used in "relaxation" massage. "Swedish" massage is the use of the fingers, hands, forearms and elbows to apply touch.

The massage is performed with the use of a lubricant such as an oil, cream or salt and is performed on a massage table.

The client dresses down to her/his level of comfort and lies on the table.  The therapist moves around the table using a variety of Swedish techniques to bring relaxation to the entire body.
Swedish
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is Japanese for "finger-pressure".

This massage modality uses the thumb, hand, elbow and simple limb motions and stretches to adjust the body's physical structure and natural inner energy, "Ki".

The client rests on a pad on the floor or a massage table.  The therapist moves around the client performing the Shiatsu movements.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue work is actually found in all of the modalities.

Simply put, work on muscle starts superficially to warm and tenderize the muscle mass which then allows the therapist to move deeper into the muscle fibers and bring about the relief that is needed.

Pressure on the muscle to be released might be with the thumb, several fingers or the elbow.  Pain is minimal at the point of contact so that the muscle releases.
Therapeutic
Therapeutic Massage is a "focus" on the aches and pains often found in our bodies.

Using various adaptions of Swedish, Shiatsu and Sports Massage techniques, the client finds relief from muscle and joint pain.

Assessments for therapeutic massage is taken at the time of intake when the client fills out the confidential medical information form.
